ABSTRACT Setaria magna Griseb. (Poaceae) is reported for the first time for Venezuela, both description and figures are presented. This species had been collected in the states of Ara-gua, Carabobo, Miranda and Sucre, almost always around lakes. This is a preliminar result of the taxonomic study of Setaria genus in Venezuela that has been conducted by the author.
