ABSTRACT A description of the sequential histological arrangement of the fasciated stem of Amaranthus cruentus, 30 days old growing under controlled conditions is presented, in order to determine the type of fasciation and to interpret anatomical modifications due to the alteration of the developmental pattern. The fasciated portion of the stem was subdivided in numbered sub samples fixed in FAA and processed until their inclusion in parafine. Sequential sections were obtained with a rotation microtome, stained with safranine-fastgreen and permanent slides were prepared for observation. Linear fasciation was observed with changes mainly in vascular cordons, presenting rotation and modification in its organizational pattern, in epidermal cells and cortex cells with anticlinal and periclinal divi-sions, probably as a mechanism of adjustment related to external changes of the fasciated stem.
