Abstract

The floristic composition and structure of a section of the San Jose river’s riparian forest, Imataca’s Forest Reserve, Bolívar State is presented. Through transects, botanical collections and observations, the composition and structure of three forest types along the river food plain is described: the first belongs to a medium sized forest dominated by Croton megalodendron, Carapa guianensis, Pentaclethra macroloba, Eschweilera decolorans, Protium sp., Licania densifora, Guarea sp. and Neea bernardii; the second, a medium sized forest, presents Carapa guianensis, Eschweilera decolorans, Aspidosperma marcgravianum, Licania densifora, Pentaclethra macroloba and Guarea sp.; the third corresponds a low forest with dominance of Croton megalodendron, Spondias mombin, Cordia sp., Guazuma ulmifolia, Gustavia augusta and Protium sp. A list of 77 species found is presented.
