The taxonomic study of the benthic red marine algae of the phylum Rhodophyta is presented for the south coast of the Macanao peninsula, Isla de Margarita, Venezuela. The phycofloristic catalogue is integrated by 21 species of algae which represent new reports for the Macanao peninsula and the species Gracilaria damaecornis J.Agardh and Cryptonemia seminervis (C.Agardh) J.Agardh are new additions to the marine algae for Nueva Esparta State. A diagnostic key, complete taxonomic description, figures and references are given for each species.
