Abstract
CARUSO, Denisse and ROJAS, Thamara. Cordyceps Venezuelensis Mains (Hypocreales, Clavicipitaceae) sobre Lepidoptera en Venezuela. Ernstia [online]. 2008, vol.18, n.1, pp.001-006. ISSN 0252-8274.
Cordyceps is one of the genera that presents diverse potentialities as a biological controller of insects and as a producer of compounds that are used for medicinal purposes among others. There is scarce information concerning this genus in Venezuela, and one of the species, C. venezuelensis Mains, was described from this country. In order to better understand this species, the type specimen deposited in the Mycological Herbarium (VIA) was examined. The results of this study agree with the description given by Mains. The first illustration of the fungus is presented.
Keywords : Clavicipitales; entomopathogenous fungi; systematic mycology; biological control; Cordyceps venezuelensis; Ascomycetes.
