PIERINI, Claudia; BRACHO, Carlos y GONZALES, Gioconda. Formulation of asphalt emulsions with lignin derivatives and its behavior with mixtures of stony materialsFormulación de emulsiones asfálticas con derivados de lignina y su comportamiento con mezclas de materiales pétreos. Rev. Téc. Ing. Univ. Zulia [online]. 2006, vol.29, n.2, pp.134-143. ISSN 0254-0770.
On the present paper, the use of lignin derivatives in the formulation of asphalt emulsions and its behavior as mixture with qualified rock aggregates was evaluated. In this investigation of descriptive nature, the asphalt emulsion was formulated with laboratory experiments and pilot plants, and the behavior with mixtures of rock aggregates with the Modified Marshall Method of Illinois. Three types of commercial lignin were used and one recovered in the laboratory from black liquor by means of a process of extraction with sulfuric acid (H2S). The formulation lead to an emulsion of the nonionic type, with an adapted behavior as it resulted from the mixture with rock aggregates with controlled properties. From the results obtained, it can be concluded that the designed mixture presents optimal properties as base layer in highway paving, limited its use for surface layer by the percentage of loss of stability, where the determining factor could be the setting time.
