Abstract

BULLON, Johnny et al. Nano-emulsification of triglyceride oils for parenteral use by mean of a low-energy emulsification method. Rev. Téc. Ing. Univ. Zulia [online]. 2007, vol.30, n.Especial, pp.428-436. ISSN 0254-0770.

The present report deals with the attainment of O/W nano-emulsions for parenteral use with a nonionic surfactant/triglyceride oil/water system. The systems were formulated at different HLB values (hydrophilic-lipophilic balance) for different Span/Tween nonionic surfactant mixtures. Emulsification was carried out by dilution, i.e., by a water addition to an oil/surfactant mixtures continuously stirred. The variations in the water/oil ratio produce different phase depending on the HLB of the system. The nano-emulsion droplet size is related to the nonionic surfactant mixture HLB. Therefore, the results highlight the particular importance of lamellar phases in the emulsification processes.

Keywords : Nano-emulsions; parenteral emulsions; HLB; triglyceride oils.
