MONTILLA M, Pedro J. Estimation of the seismic response of the site using microtremor measurements in the Pan de Azúcar area, Ejido, Mérida. Rev. Téc. Ing. Univ. Zulia [online]. 2013, vol.36, n.2, pp.164-173. ISSN 0254-0770.
The lessons learned from destructive earthquakes in the recent past show that the dynamic response or site effects play a decisive role in the evaluation, quantification and distribution of the damage in a seismic disaster area. Measurements of microtremor or environmental vibration from its appearance have been an important tool for the estimation of the dynamic behavior of the site. These have become one of the most common, versatile, inexpensive and efficient methods in the modern Earthquake Engineering. Its use and application in this field has spread around the whole world, being validated and accepted as a viable technical tool for estimating the likely effects of site, particularly useful in areas with low seismicity or seismic activity. In this paper, we estimate the site effects in an area populated by a number of stations seismometer, strategically located in the Pan de Azúcar area, trying to cover possible critical points and discontinuities of the terrain susceptible to unequal dynamic behavior. The measurements were done with measuring devices of digital signals, high range and resolution. The technique of Nakamura, based on the transfer function of the recorded signal, was applied to determine the dynamic parameters of soil, frequency and dominant periods of vibration and likely soil amplification range, at each station.
