Abstract

RODRIGUEZ RUIZ, Yordán; PEREZ MERGAREJO, Elizabeth  and  VAZQUEZ VELOZ, Lamberto. Ergonomic improvements: Good effects for the organization. Rev. Téc. Ing. Univ. Zulia [online]. 2013, vol.36, n.2, pp.183-192. ISSN 0254-0770.

Ergonomic applications have proved to be an approach that improves both health and productivity indicators in organizations. One of the problems that has hindered ergonomic applications is that, although these proposals are justified scientifically and technically, they do not show managers the potential benefits that could be obtained with their implementation. In this research, various ergonomic improvements were proposed to reduce exposure to risk factors of work-related musculoskeletal disorders in a production line where foodstuffs are placed on trays. They were classified as the physical redesign of workstations and organizational measures and were simulated for measuring their effects on the productivity of the production line. The results of this study show the usefulness of simulation for predicting and analyzing the effects of ergonomic improvements -and also the benefits that can be obtained with an integral approach to problem solving- in the industry.

Keywords : musculoskeletal disorders; ergonomic design; Ergonomics; ERIN; simulation.
