BECERRA RODRIGUEZ, María Blanca et al. Use of the desirability function to optimize a vulcanized product. Rev. Téc. Ing. Univ. Zulia [online]. 2014, vol.37, n.1, pp.85-94. ISSN 0254-0770.

This work shows the simultaneous optimization of three quality characteristics of the manufacturing process of vulcanization: scorch time, maximum tearing strength and cost formulation of development of the rubber-fiber product. Fractional factorial design is an effective tool that is applied when uncertainty about how factors affect the quality characteristics of process is high. Operational factors considered were: carbon black, paraffinic oil, stearic acid, ZnO, EPDM-MA, MBTS, TMTD, fiber, sulfur vulcanizing time and temperature of mixing. The objective was to maximize the scorch time, maximizing tearing strength and minimizing cost of product formulation. The quality characteristics were analyzed by ANOVA. An array was found that simultaneously optimizes three quality characteristics with the desirability function.

Palavras-chave : design of experiments; simultaneous optimization; EPDM; natural fiber.
