Abstract
MUJICA, Viky et al. Incorporation of vegetable oil removed from pulp pijiguao (Bactris gasipaes HBK) as dispersant in manufacture of alkyd paints. Rev. Téc. Ing. Univ. Zulia [online]. 2015, vol.38, n.2, pp.122-129. ISSN 0254-0770.
The paint required additives consisting mostly of fatty acid, these are used as dispersing agents to facilitate the spreading of the solid constituents in the liquid phase during the production, storage and/ or paint application. In this investigation the incorporation of a national oil extracted from the fruit pulp pijiguao (Bactris gasipaes HBK) in two different varieties, in the manufacture of alkyd paints as an alternative to the commercial dispersant mostly imported are evaluated. To the finished product is determined by the degree of dispersion, coverage, content of non-volatile material, sedimentation stability and the results were compared with the commercial standard. From the results it was found that the coverage percentage (69.08%) and the degree of dispersion of the paint made with oil pijiguao not different with the commercial dispersant (69.8% coverage). Moreover it was found that the yellow oil at a dosage range of 0.03% is the best alternative to replace commercial dispersant.
