Abstract

AGUILAR RIVERA, Noé. Sugarcane bagasse pulp with a high ratio of long fiber. Rev. Téc. Ing. Univ. Zulia [online]. 2016, vol.39, n.2, pp.047-055. ISSN 0254-0770.

Sugarcane bagasse is a nonwood fiber in developing countries. However, is composed of damaged fibers by mills from sugar factory, average length fibers is in the range of hardwood but shorter than softwood and low strength properties and drainage with filtration and permeability problems in papermaking. This constraint is solved by technological strategies incorporating long fiber softwood pulp to the composition of bagasse pulp for different papers in stock preparation. The objective of this paper was to evaluate the potential of kraft sacks pulp, as a reinforcing component in soda bagasse pulps. Kraft sacks paper was handled with conventional methods of recycling and later mixed with bagasse pulp. Pulp & paper industry test was used to evaluate mechanical and drainability properties and fibers length distribution. It could be observed that the fraction of largest fibers in length is approximately 55% higher than conventional soda bagasse pulp. The results showed that the drainage and mechanical strength of the bagasse/ kraft sacks pulp samples were better that bagasse.

Keywords : Bagasse pulp; soda process; kraft sacks pulp.
