VICTORIA, Jorge. The negroes auxiliares sent to Trinidad in the context of the Haitian revolution 1791-1796. Argos [online]. 2006, vol.23, n.44, pp.54-73. ISSN 0254-1637.

In this paper the author addresses a topic linked to the Haitian revolution and the loss of the Spanish part of Santo Domingo’s island at the hands of France. The help that the black rebels of Saint-Domingue lent to the Hispanic cause in that conflict after an alliance for mutual interests has been scarcely studied, as well as what passed with those allies after the peace agreement. The negroes went sends to Havana and from there forwarded in groups to diverse parts of the Caribbean and Cadiz. The article analyzes the group of Auxiliaries sent to Trinidad, where they were rejected by the governor. It is suggested that this measure was caused by the fact that the island had more in common with Ancien Régime France than with its metropolis.

Palavras-chave : Haitian revolution; Santo Domingo; troop of negroes; Trinidad; Auxiliaries.
