BRAVO, Carola. Three views of Caracas: The nineteenth-century city through its pictorial and graphic testimonies. Argos [online]. 2008, vol.25, n.48, pp.44-69. ISSN 0254-1637.

The aim of this article is the study of artistic testimonies of Caracas, specifically pictorial and graphic ones and done between 1830 y 1890, as interpretational resources of an integral image of the city’s landscape from an artistic perspective. In order to do that, we start from the premise that artistic images are a product and expression of their time. A selection of images that reveal most of the changes in the urban structure and the landscape are presented; the images are grouped under "theme glances" that respond, first, to the artist’s ideological position in front of his representation of reality; and second, to the point of view or the distance from which he looks at its objective.

Palavras-chave : paintings; drawings; perception; information; city.
