What challenges are imposed by globalization to Latin American writers? El síndrome de Ulises can be read as the answer that Colombian writer S. Gamboa offers to this question - an answer that accounts for the limits (and not the possibilities) of the intellectual function in a global society. Frivolity, indifference and, above all, the incapability to understand the one that lives the globalization from the "vagabond" experience (Bauman), mark the move of this novel’s main character, in which little remains of the image of the boom. The purpose of this article is to understand Gamboa´s proposition regarding the meaning of the intellectual craft in today´s world, thus analyzing this portrait of a young Latin American writer.
