It is well known that modern philosophy aims to build philosophical knowledge on the highest certainty of the truth “I am”, considered as the first principle of philosophy. This paper contains an attempt to offer an explanation of the construction of the thought “I” and of the use of it by the thinking sentient being that man is, in order to understand himself as an I, exploring some conditions for the possibility of the self-reference that constitutes himself as an I.
