Abstract

ALONSO, I et al. EVALUACIÓN DEL EMPLEO DE LA RETRODISPERSIÓN BETA PARA EL ESTUDIO DE CAPAS FINAS DE PRODUCTOS DE CORROSIÓN. Rev. LatinAm. Met. Mat. [online]. 2002, vol.22, n.1, pp.12-15. ISSN 0255-6952.

Some interactions occur on atomic nuclei and atomic electron shell when beta particles pass through matter. A portion of the impinging beta particles is deflected after particles are released from the scattering medium. On this phenomenon is based the beta backscattering method, which has been used on the evaluation composition and thickness of materials. A beta backscattering set up was used to study thin layers of corrosion products formed on the system Cu 99.98% / NaCl 3%. Calculations performed with MCNP-4A (Monte Carlo N-Particle Transport System, Version 4A) agree with experimental results. The calculations established the minimum conditions to analyze this kind of layers.

Keywords : corrosion products; beta backscattering; modelling.
