Abstract Duplex stainless steel welding is a process of high technological interest due to its great versatility and use at industrial level. In this work, it is achieved an optimal procedure for 2205 duplex stainless steel welding by Gas Metal Arc Welding process (GMAW) using the pulsed arc technique. This procedure may be used for any steel in which a zone with different conditions of weld is determined. In this procedure, low caloric contributions take place, which guarantees a suitable union without modifying in significant way the balance of microstructural phases (ferrite/austenite) during the process and simultaneously no changes in the mechanical and corrosive properties take place. Among the main conclusions, it is obtained a low caloric contribution process, in one single pass for a 5 mm-thickness sheet with narrow heat affected zones in comparison with conventional welding processes obtaining good mechanical properties and welded joints that do not show detrimental phases ( s ) [1].
