Abstract

This work shows the results of the microstructural characterization on Al-7Si-Cu and Al-7Si-Ni cast alloys without and with small addition of Sr. Its characteristics were compared with the Al-7Si reference cast alloy, also without and with Sr. The major phases and the chemical composition of each one were evaluated applying SEM with EDS and WDS microanalysis techniques. Other microstructural characteristics as: dendritic arm spacing, morphology of the phases, location of the intermetallic compounds were evaluated by Optical microscopy ( OM ). Finally the microstructure was linked to the increasing or decreasing in mechanical properties of each cast alloy.
