Abstract
PAYARES, M. C and DORTA-ALMENARA, M. Influencia de la Soldadura GMAW sobre la Resistencia al Impacto del Acero Inoxidable Dúplex SAF 2205. Rev. LatinAm. Met. Mat. [online]. 2003, vol.23, n.2, pp.45-49. ISSN 0255-6952.
The study of the mechanical properties in butt joints for duplex stainless steels SAF 2205 under the influence of variables such as arc current, arc voltage and welding speed is important for determining the optimise conditions for an efficient joint, since the applicability of this material in different industries especially the petrochemical. In this paper an attempt is made to determine the impact strength of the butt joints not only under different welding variables but also at complex cryogenic conditions. Test were designed and performed using Gas Metal Arc Welding process (GMAW) with a constant power source using a direct current reverse polarity. A duplex stainless steel was used as the base metal and ER-2209 electrode wire as filler metal as recommended by AWS 4.92 and 5.9-93. After testing, the DSS weldments no ductile to fragile transition were observed in the temperature range used (-40 ° C to 22 ° C) and the energy values remained almost constant between both temperatures. Also the results did not show a significant variations in the toughness of values the welding process of DSS SAF 2205 under the range of the parameters used.
