Abstract

PAREDES-DUGARTE, Solange Y  and  HIDALGO-PRADA, Benjamín. El uso de la Interferometría Optica para evaluar corrosión por picadura en la aleación comercial de aluminio 3003. Rev. LatinAm. Met. Mat. [online]. 2005, vol.25, n.1-2, pp.46-52. ISSN 0255-6952.

Scanning white light interferometry was used to study the surfaces of a commercial aluminum alloy 3003 (Al-Mn), corroded in saline environment. The two and three dimension profiles generated by the software made it possible the accurate determination of pits depths and their morphological characterization. Measurements of pits depths allowed the calculation of a time independent average pitting factor of 2.5 for this 3003 aluminum alloy, suggesting a highly localized attack. This technique is then a direct and reliable procedure for the evaluation of surfaces of aluminum plates corroded by pitting

Keywords : Aluminum alloy 3003; pitting corrosion; pitting factor; optical interferometry.
