Abstract
RAMIREZ, Arturo et al. Soldadura de un acero inoxidable Duplex 2205 por el proceso de soldadura GTAW. Rev. LatinAm. Met. Mat. [online]. 2006, vol.26, n.1-2, pp.43-50. ISSN 0255-6952.
Ferritic and austenitic stainless steels substitution by Duplex Stainless Steels (DSS) in the manufacture of industrial components has its origin in the excellent combination of mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of the DSS. From this point of view, there is great interest in the study of these materials and their welding. At present, these steels are being used very frequently in the chemical and petrochemical industry, and particularly in oil refining plants due to their high pitting corrosion resistance. In this work, gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) was performed on sheets of 2205 duplex stainless steel of 0.6 cm-thick using filler metal. Welding parameters such as current and arc length, welding speed and root separation were determined previously with the purpose of getting the minimum number of welding passes in order to avoid microstructural damage due to overheating. Later, the effect of the cooling speed on the weld microstructure and properties was determined subjecting the welded coupons to two different cooling rates (water and blowed air). From this work welded 2205 duplex stainless steel by GTAW samples were obtained with good penetration, good surface finishing and excellent mechanical properties. Additionally, it was observed that secondary austenite with globular morphology in the root pass in contrast to the typical Widmastätten morphology of the secondary austenite. It is thought that this austenite morphology change in the root pass is the result of the heat treatment carried out by the top pass on the root pass.
