Abstract

NIA±O MARLY, Astrid Cristina; MOGOLLA³N, Julieth; ACEVEDO, Próspero  and  C CA³RDOBA, Elcy María. COATINGS OF BIOLOGICAL L HYDROXYAPATITE DOPED WITH MAGN NESIUM AND REINFORCED WITH TH TIO2: SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZAT TION. Rev. LatinAm. Metal. Mater. [online]. 2014, vol.34, n.2, pp.240-250. ISSN 0255-6952.

Bio-coatings of TiO2 and biological hydro oxyapatite (HA) doped with magnesium (TiO2/HA-Mg) w were deposited on AISI 316L stainless steel by dip-coating tec chnique, from suspensions of HA-Mg powders (whic ich were obtained by hydrothermal treatment of bovine bone in ssolutions of Mg(NO3)2) in TiO2 sols. Biological hydroxy yapatite powders doped with Mg were characterized by XRD and FFT-IR analytical techniques, in order to evaluate the com mpositional changes. On the other hand, the coating’s characteristics s were evaluated by scanning electron and optic microsco opies, adhesion force to the substrate, in vitro bioactivity in SBF and corrosion resistance. The bovine bone hydrotherma ally treated allowed to obtain hydroxyapatite with greater reac ctivity due to its doping with Mg, what was confirirmed throughout the electrochemical characterization of the film ms. The modification of HA with Mg does not significan ntly affect the physical and mechanical properties of the TiO2/HA films. An increment in the bioactivity of the HA was only y observed when it was modified with 10% Mg, so that during tthe immersion of this coating in SBF shows an initia itial stage of biomaterial dissolution and the subsequent stage of apa atites formation on its surface
