Abstract

SILVA, Yimmy  and  DELVASTO, Silvio. Physical and mechanical characteristics of feldspathic dental porcelain using bovine bone as replacement of feldspar. Rev. LatinAm. Metal. Mater. [online]. 2016, vol.36, n.1, pp.61-69. ISSN 0255-6952.

This study presents results of a research about the effects on physical and mechanical properties of incorporation of heattreated (at 600 ° C) bovine bone, finely ground, as replacement of feldspar in conventional dental porcelain (feldspathic). It were prepared specimens of two diverse shapes (cylindrical and rectangular prismatic) to evaluate the properties of ceramic pastes in mixes where feldspar was replaced in three different percentages (10%, 20% y 30%) by weight of the bovine bone. The specimens were dried and burned. The mechanical properties were evaluated to compression and flexural strength, while the physical properties were evaluated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X- Rays Difraction, microhardness, absorption and density. It was observed that the sintering temperature and the percentage of replacement of feldspar by heat treated ground bone influence the mechanical and physical properties. It was obtained compressive strengths of 159.5 MPa in porcelain with 20 % of ground bone, sintered at 1300 ° C, and a average apparent porosity of 0.34%. The porcelain with 10% bone exhibiting the most microhardness with a value of 809.7 at the same sintering temperature.
