Abstract

CARDENAS PULIDO, Jhon; LIZARAZO-MARRIAGA, Juan  and  APERADOR CHAPARRO, Willian. Mechanical performance of cementitious binary systems (Portland cement-fly ash-blast furnace slag). Rev. LatinAm. Metal. Mater. [online]. 2016, vol.36, n.1, pp.78-98. ISSN 0255-6952.

In order to provide materials that contribute to environmental sustainability, binary blends were developed corresponding to cementitious systems such as Portland cement-fly ash, Portland cement-blast furnace slag and fly ash-blast furnace slag. In this experimental program were tested 120 concrete specimens from 8 mixtures having different dosages. For these, their mechanical properties in compression, modulus of elasticity and Poisson's ratio, tensile and modulus of rupture were evaluated. Activation of samples without Portland cement was made by combining alkali activators such as sodium silicate and sodium hydroxide. The characterization of the raw materials was performed by fluorescence analysis. The results indicate that blended concretes present the best mechanical properties for fly ash and blast furnace slag contents equivalent to 20%. Also, alkali activated concretes show comparable and/or higher mechanical performance than those obtained by blended concretes evaluated in this study.

Keywords : Blended concretes; alkali activated concretes; mechanical properties.
