Resumen

GONZALEZ, Deokie; ALVARADO, Carlos  y  MARIN, Carlos. Design and Validation of a Survey for the Characterization of Goat Production Units. Rev. Fac. Cienc. Vet. [online]. 2017, vol.58, n.2, pp.68-74. ISSN 0258-6576.

In the search for modifiable factors to achieve higher levels of productivity, quality, and marketing of the products produced by the goat production units (UPC), such as milk and cheese, the objective of this research was to design a valid and reliable survey to define specific criteria of classification, selection, and operative diagnosis of the GPU. For its design and elaboration, relevant operational dimensions and indicators were considered, based on bibliographic reviews and consultations with experts in animal production, good practices, and survey management. The validation was carried out by consulting experts, according to the degree of pertinence, consistency, and clarity in the writing and in the formulation of the items. The survey was designed in 10 sections directly related to the chosen operational dimensions (production unit, veterinary attention, exploitation system, livestock practices, milking, milking practices, goat cheese processing, finished product, marketing, and manufacturing practices) , generating a total of 47 indicators and 99 items to ensure the internal consistency of the instrument. In a first review, 88% of the items were considered “entirely appropriate” to achieve the desired objective, and the experts recommended small modifications to the instrument, which, once implemented, served for final approval. The degree of reliability of the definitive survey was determined through a pilot test, with nine GPU, resulting in a high internal correlation among the items (Cronbach’s alpha= 0.91), thus demonstrating the representativeness of the aspects explored by these items in the instrument. Therefore, it could be concluded that the survey developed could be used as a tool for evaluation and characterization of the UPC.

Palabras clave : Farm censuses; goat production; milk.
