Abstract
FERNANDEZ, Adriana; CABRERA, Pedro; DIAZ, Thais and RUIZ, Ana Z.. Expression of the insulin-like growth factor-1 and its relationship with the in vitro bovine embryo production. Rev. Fac. Cienc. Vet. [online]. 2020, vol.61, n.1, pp.3-11. Epub May 07, 2021. ISSN 0258-6576.
The aim of the present work was to determine the expression of the insulin-like growth factor type 1(IGF-1) and its receptor, in ovary and follicular fluid (FL) of crossbreed Cebu cows and its relationship with in vitro bovine embryo production. Cumulus oocytes complexes (COCs) were selected, counted and separated depending on the donor status: pregnant (P) cows with or without a corpus luteum (CL) and non pregnant (NP) cows with (CL) or without (NoCL) a CL. We evaluated the expression of IGF-I and its receptor in ovary and LF by Western blot. There is a greater expression of IGF-1 and its receptor, both in ovarian tissue and FL, from ovaries of non-pregnant and pregnant cows with CL. When these results are related to the rate of divided embryos and the rate of blastocyst production, there are similarities with oocytes from ovaries of non-pregnant cows with a CL, obtaining a higher rate of embryonic division, which would suggest that the IGF-1 plays a very important role in the development of CL during the beginning of the luteal phase. These results show that the reproductive status of a cow should be taken into account for oocyte selection, in order to improve embryo production.
Keywords : IGF-1; IGF-1 receptor; in vitro embryo production; Crossbred Zebu cows; reproductive status.
