The program of leprosy in Venezuela describes 8 859 diagnosed patients and treated from 1978 to 1997. Due to the pathology’s own characteristics it is assumed not all patients are known and a methodology should be used to estimate the "real prevalence" of the disease. We found an unequal distribution in the country and though the elimination criterion has been achieved at the national level, the problem remains in a group of states.
