SQUILLANTE, Guido; ROJAS, Maritza; MEDINA, Evelyn  e  TERAN DE ROJAS, Olga. Evolución conductual y de aprendizaje en niños con déficit en su desarrollo, posterior a tratamiento para plumbemia. Gac Méd Caracas [online]. 2002, vol.110, n.3, pp.355-360. ISSN 0367-4762.

This study evaluates the contribution of clinical and psycho pedagogical treatments in the behavior and cognitive functions of children. We studied ten children of both sexes that attended the Center for Infant Development of Valencia, Carabobo state. These children were selected from a preliminary study due to their higher than permissible blood lead (Pb-S) levels as adopted by the CDC-Atlanta (10 µg/dL). Clinical and psycho pedagogical treatment was administered and we determined Pb-S levels for these children before and after they received clinical and psycho pedagogical treatments. Average Pb-S level after treatment was 12,55 µg/dL. This level was statistically higher (P£ 0,05) than Pb-S levels obtained before treatment (19,95 µg/dL). In the psycho pedagogical tests, the following variables: fine motricity, basic concepts, calculus, and emotional improved significantly in females (P£ 0,05) compared to the results obtained before treatment. In males, only basic concepts and habits improved. The preliminary results are discussed and recommendations are given for further, more conclusive studies.
