Abstract

About 5000 years ago, near the XVII century b.C. the Edwin Smith Papyrus was written. Consist exclusively of cases, not recipes and was organized abouth injuries from the head and proceed downward through the body. The verdict of the forty eight cases was classified in three ways: a. favorable, b. uncertain, c. unfavorable, that meaning no to treat. It has a particular interest for neurosurgery because contains the fisrt descriptions of brain, meninges, brain surface and pulsation, cerebrospinal fluid and cranial sutures.
