An analysis of the teaching personnel is conducted in the "Luis Razetti" School of Medicine and of their status in the different categories of the faculty position, according to the information given by the Department of personnel until November 2001. The categories of the faculty position are established according to the date of entry of the professors between the years 1950 and 1999. From studying the reasons that cause the prevention of promotions, in the most important universities of the country, according to the Law of the Universities, the articles and resolutions that are relevant to the university community, an opinion is made on the causes that delay the professor’s promotions. The results reflect an inversion in the faculty position in the last thirty years. In the School "Luis Razetti" the 90.2 % of the professors have not been promoted to the immediate superior category and only 7.4 % of the 472 professors, have achieved the titular category until the date of the study.
