Ubicación anatómica, identificación histológica y preservación de las glándulas paratiroides durante la tiroidectomía . Gac Méd Caracas [online]. 2004, vol.112, n.1, pp.38-41. ISSN 0367-4762.
A study of 13 patients with thyroid patology was carried out, to which thyroidectomy subtotal or lobectomy were practiced in the Service of General Surgery of the Hospital Risquez of Caracas during the year 2000. The objective was to locate anatomically, to identify histologically and to preserve the parathyroid glands during the thyroidectomy. A total of 27 glands, were located: 25 (92.6 %) in its normal anatomical position, while 2 (7.4 %) they werent. Per-operative biopsy was practiced to the 27 parathyroids, being these identified histologically in 100 % of the cases. We concludes that the location of the parathyroid glands for the surgeon during the thyroidectomy is of great importance, as well as being familiarized with the macroscopic characteristics, since in this way they can be preserved during the surgical act to avoid severe complications.
