Imaging studies represent an invaluable asset for the ophthalmologist’s diagnostic armamentaria. Their proper use and interpretation demand solid clinical judgment. We review the technical characteristics of various neuroimaging modalities and their relationship with the most frequently encountered lesions in the visual and oculomotor pathways. A topographical tour is used to highlight the pros and cons of cerebral computerized tomography and magnetic resonance imaging for selected lesions of neuro-ophthalmological interest.
