BLANDENIER BOSSON DE SUAREZ, Claudia Antonieta  y  LOPEZ-LOYO, Enrique Santiago. Enfermedad de Chagas canina: Presentación de dos casos en perros de raza Huski siberiano con miocarditis chagásica procedentes de Paracotos, Estado Miranda, Venezuela. Gac Méd Caracas. [online]. 2017, vol.125, n.4, pp.328-336. ISSN 0367-4762.

Introduction: The presence of a seropositive dog for the T cruzi or carrier of Chagas disease in a locality is indicative of the existence of this infection. Two cases of Siberian Husky breed dogs are presented from the locality of Paracotos, Miranda State. Both canine presented clinical picture of myocarditis with serological and hematological diagnosis of Chagas’disease. One of the dogs had a partial heart autopsy. Objective: To describe the clinical characteristics of the two dogs with Chagas´myocarditis and the anatomopathological findings of the partial autopsy of one of them. Methods: We analyzed the clinical data and the macroscopic and histopathological findings of the heart of the autopsy case. For the light microscope study, myocardial samples were stained with routine stains. Immunohistochemical reactions were performed for investigating the pattern of inflammatory cells and evaluating angiogenesis. Result: The anatomopathological diagnosis was of progressive pancarditis Chagas’disease. Discussion: Since 1936 the presence of human Chagas’ disease in this locality has been known. More recent epidemiological studies have shown the presence of vector, with an infection rate of 20 % to 100.0 % - which was considered a risk factor for exposure to the population. The importance of angiogenesis as a factor of progression of cardiomyopathy is raised. Conclusion: The presence of two cases of spontaneous canine Chagas’ disease is indicative of active T cruzi infection in this hacienda and population. The presence of angiogenesis is considered an important factor in the pathogenesis of Chagas’ cardiomyopathy.
