SAN ANTONIO, Thalía; CIACCIA, M; MULLER-KARGER, Carmen y CASANOVA, Euro. Methodology to incorporate non-isotropic bone properties in a finite element model. IMME [online]. 2008, vol.46, n.3, pp.29-42. ISSN 0376-723X.
Most of the finite element models found in the literature assumes that the mechanical behavior of the bone tissue is isotropic. In order to produce more accurate models, this study proposes the incorporation of transversally isotropic material properties. An analysis of the models sensibility to the orientation of the materials properties, using three different material types and three load cases is presented. The results show that the local reference systems converge to the principal stress directions in one step, and this behavior is independent of its initial orientation. The strain is the more sensitive parameter to the variation of the orientation of the materials properties, and this behavior is independent of the direction of the load.
