CHACON, Rolando; MIRAMBELL, Enrique y REAL, Esther. Resistance of unstiffened steel plate girders subjected to concentrated loads. IMME [online]. 2009, vol.47, n.1, pp.1-16. ISSN 0376-723X.
Concentrated loads on steel plate girders should be carried by vertical transverse stiffeners deployed on each loaded cross-section of the members. There are, however, certain design cases in which vertical stiffeners cannot be physically deployed in such sections. The launching of steel bridges during construction is one remarkable realistic case in which this situation arises. Accordingly, the resistance of steel girders to such loads must be known and understood. This paper describes the design provisions presently implemented in codes for verifying the resistance of plate girders subjected to concentrated loads. Likewise, references and theoretical backgrounds of the aforementioned guidelines are pointed out.
