The effect of CNG composition on CH, CO y NOx emissions was determined and the levels of the letter were compared against existing regulations. A test bench engine was used and the exhaust emissions were analyzed at idle speed, 1500, 2000 and 2500 rpm. CNG Composition changes continuously throughout time. For that reason two parameters, the Wobbe number and the CH4/CH percentage were considered to identify each of the five fuel samples used. The chemical composition of each sample was determined via chromatography analysis. The results confirmed that the chemical composition differences in the different samples influenced the engine emissions. However, there was no statistical evidence that the two parameters chosen, the Wobbe number and the CH4/CH percentage, could be used as a means to establish relationship between CNG composition vs. emissions. By no means have the levels of emissions of CH, CO and NOx in any case surpassed the limits established in national and international normatives.
