Abstract

DURAN GARCIA, Héctor Martín; AGUIRRE RIVERA, Juan Rogelio  and  CHARCAS SALAZAR, Hilario. Tendencias de la mecanización agrícola en el estado de san luis potosí, méxico. INCI [online]. 2002, vol.27, n.6, pp.307-311. ISSN 0378-1844.

One of the most important economic factors in agriculture is the soil and its efficient preparation, using the appropriate production tools, meeting deadlines and applying acceptable quality standards. However, when this is not properly conducted, serious problems emerge because of the alteration of natural nutrient turnover cycles and the disruption of the dynamic balance relationship between soil and wild flora and fauna. The physical, chemical and biological deterioration of soil becomes evident as a drop in fertility, erosion and pollution, which affect man and his objectives in transforming the environment. In order to generate a state strategy for agricultural mechanization and development, this work aimed to determine the current situation of agricultural mechanization in the State of San Luis Potosí, México. To this end comprehensive information was obtained from libraries as well as directly from field trips. It is concluded that there is a close relationship between self-consumption crops and animal-operated agricultural tools, as well as between commercial crops and motorized agricultural machinery. Nevertheless, among the latter there are practices that can only be carried out using manual and animal-operated tools, given that the use of motorized machinery requires a technological change as a whole. This explains the existence of both production media in San Luis Potosí’s commercial agriculture; changes in traditional crops and practices imply the trend towards replacing animal labor.
