Resumen

LEVY TACHER, Samuel Israel; AGUIRRE RIVERA, J. Rogelio; MARTINEZ ROMERO, María Magdalena  y  DURAN FERNANDEZ, Alejandro. Caracterización del uso tradicional de la flora espontánea en la comunidad lacandona de lacanhá, chiapas, méxico.. INCI [online]. 2002, vol.27, n.10, pp.512-520. ISSN 0378-1844.

Systematic plant collections were carried out in evergreen tropical forests, "acahuales" (local name for old agricultural fields) of various ages and "milpas" in the Lacanhá Chansayab community located in the Lacandonian tropical forest between 1993 and 1999. Collected individuals were identified and processed as collection specimens, including information on habitat, life form and uses. Information was obtained on the relative importance of useful species in the structure of Southeastern Mexico’s evergreen tropical forests and acahuales. Four hundred eighty five vascular plant species were recorded, from which 356, or 73.4%, were identified and used by Lacandonians. A high percentage of these species (77%) are locally used to obtain plant materials to meet self-consumption needs, including construction, food, firewood and drugs; other materials are obtained for commercial purposes as those required to manufacture handcrafts and selling fibers from "pita" and palm leaves. Evergreen tropical forests and acahuales include 124 species locally used by Lacandonians. The use of these species throughout a successional gradient illustrates the persistent nature in the use of these natural resources by local communities; thus, the increase in the number of species used by lacandonians is directly related to the fallow or duration of the vegetation resting period.
