Cultures of Saccharomyces cerevisiae were submitted to magnetic fields of high frequency (up to 100kHz) and low flux density (up to 620mG). Statistical designs of response surfaces were used to assess the ranges in which flux density, frequency and application time produce significant effects on cell concentration (CB). In the values of the variables predicted as significant by the models derived from this methodology, comparisons were performed among cell growths under diverse flux densities, exposition to field durations and field frequencies in order to assess the CB behavior for one variable at a time. The least significant difference (LSD) method was used to compare test results corresponding to each variable. The results showed that it is possible to stimulate the culture growth under magnetic fields by applying flux densities of 20mG, frequencies of 100kHz and application times of 30s. The stimulation reached 30% with reference to a control culture.
