Abstract

CEDENO, Luis; CARRERO, Chrystian; QUINTERO, Kleyra  and  SEGOVIA, Pedro. Botrytis porri, causante de pudrición en el cuello del ajoen mérida, venezuela. INCI [online]. 2003, vol.28, n.5, pp.273-277. ISSN 0378-1844.

Botrytis porri was identified as the cause of neck rot on garlic plants grown at Mesa de Caballo, Miranda Municipality of Merida State, Venezuela. The pathogen identity was established based on morphology and size of conidia and sclerotia produced in vitro and in situ. On a substrate prepared with oatmeal and water, the fungus formed characteristic large black cerebriform sclerotia. All inoculated garlic seedlings died within one week, whereas seedlings used as control did not show disease symptoms. Only B. porri was isolated from inoculated seedlings. This is the first report of B. porri infecting garlic grown in Venezuela.
