MENDEZ-ROMERO,, Franky; BLANQUER, Juan Gisbert; GARCIA-DIAZ, Juan  y  MARQUES-MATEU, Ángel. Relación estadística entre metales pesados y propiedades de suelos de cultivo regados con aguas residuales no depuradas. INCI [online]. 2003, vol.28, n.5, pp.281-286. ISSN 0378-1844.

Soils of the rice crop region located Southeast from the city of Valencia, Spain, are irrigated with water from the Favara Channel water, which carries residual wastewater spills to the Turia river. In these soils, the total average concentration of heavy metals (Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mo, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn) was determined and their relation to soil physical and chemical properties was analyzed by multivariant statistical analysis. Soils were characterized by conventional analytical methods. The results showed that the soils have a high cation exchange ability, considerable organic fraction and alkaline pH. The total heavy metals average concentration showed the sequence Fe>Mn> Zn>Cu>Cr>Pb>Ni>>Mo>Cd. The statistical analysis showed clear correlations between clay, organic matter, pH, EC, loam, Fe and Mn, and the total heavy metals average concentration. The total concentration in soil of Zn, Pb, Cr, Ni, Mo and Cu, and the concentration of Cd, Cr, Cu, Pb, Mo, Mn and Ni in irrigation waters are above the limits established for their evaluation, revealing in both cases potential toxicity risks in the rice crop.
