Abstract

CURIEL CARIAS, Ernesto C. El diseño en la integración de los sistemas naturales y artificiales. INCI [online]. 2003, vol.28, n.8, pp.482-490. ISSN 0378-1844.

The explanations about the origin of the extreme alterations introduced in the biosphere by human activities deal, recurrently, with immaterial causes linked to the perception, evaluation and conception of our relations with the natural world. The relationship between these immaterial causes and the material surroundings is dealt with, to a large extent, by the activity of design. The number, heterogeneity and dispersion of factors that affect this activity blur an integrated view about the role of design in the crisis. In this essay, some recent discussions are reviewed concerning the dissociations between the logic that rules the structure and dynamics of the natural systems, and that other logic that has prevailed in the artificial systems. Both logics feed and determine the craft of design in contradictory ways. Additionally, some contemporary considerations are reviewed trying to reconcile those assumptions of design, with the purpose to assure the viability, in time, of a global ecology.
