CEDENO, Luis; CARRERO, Chrystian  e  JAIMEZ, Ramón. Pudrición basal del ají dulce por haematonectria haematococca en el estado mérida, venezuela. INCI [online]. 2003, vol.28, n.10, pp.590-592. ISSN 0378-1844.

Haematonectria haematococca (anamorph Fusarium solani) was identified as the causal agent of the disease that in May 2002 produced collar and root rot on approximately 20000 sweet pepper (Capsicum chinense) plants cultivated under the shade of passion fruit plants (Passiflora edulis f. sp. flavicarpa), at the Alberto Adriani Municipality, Merida State, Venezuela. Later, the disease was also detected at La Mucuy, Santos Marquina Municipality of Merida. On the collar of dead plants the fungus produced typical red to reddish brown, warted perithecia. H. haematococca killed all of the artificially inoculated seedlings within 5 days after inoculation. Seedlings used as control did not show disease symptoms. This is the first formal report in Venezuela of H. haematococca as the cause of basal rot on sweet pepper.
