The respiration rates of four comercial hybrids of peppers (Capsicum annum L.) stored at 10ºC were determined using a respirometer built in the laboratory, based on the principle of collection of the CO₂ arising from fruit respiration. The CO₂ produced was 24.6-56.2mg·kg^-1·h^-1, corresponding in thermal units to 66-151W·t^-1. It was found that hybrids with a width/length ratio close to unity showed lower weight losses.
