The characterization of 65 clones selected out of the 160 clones present in the cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) germplasm bank of CENIAP-INIA, Maracay, Venezuela, was performed by electrophoresis of isoenzymes and hydrosoluble proteins, so as to complement the morphological characterization of these clones. The analyzed clones showed large isoenzyme variability in almost all of the evaluated systems, except peroxydases. The analysis of a and b esterases in root tips detected larger variability amongst the clones that the systems evaluated in young leaf tissues (denaturized proteins, peroxydases and rubisco), being similar to the morphological characterization and, thus, a possible complement to the latter.
