Resumen

VEGAS, Ariadne; TRUJILLO, Gustavo; SANDREA, Yanet  y  MATA, Jonás. Apomixis, poliembrionía somática y cigótica in vivo en lechosa. INCI [online]. 2003, vol.28, n.12, pp.715-718. ISSN 0378-1844.

Apomixis, somatic and zygotic polyembryony in vivo are described in papaya (Carica papaya L.). Apomixis was studied in seven populations of ginoic papaya plants, by enclosing the flowers in paper bags before opening. An average of 61% of the flowers set fruits. These fruits formed seeds from which green normal shoots were regenerated in vitro. In fruits of some ginoic and andromonoic papaya populations, empty seeds were observed without endosperm, with one to four embryos located in the micropile end. These embryos were rescued and germinated in vitro. Regenerated plants showed the same characteristics as mother plants. In normal seeds from the Amameyada papaya type, the occurrence of two zygotic embryos per seed was observed with a frequency of 5 in 3000 dissected seeds.
