Abstract

HERNANDEZ, Yonis  and  TRUJILLO, Gustavo. Relaciones serológicas entre aislamientos bacterianos de los géneros Erwinia, Pectobacterium Y Pantoea. INCI [online]. 2004, vol.29, n.8, pp.447-454. ISSN 0378-1844.

This study was carried out in order to find the serological relationships between different isolates from different bacterial genera and species. Eight isolates were used, three of them from Pectobacterium chrysanthemi obtained from corn (Zea mays), potato (Solanum tuberosum) and sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas); three of Pectobacterium carotovora subsp. carotovora, one coming from garden coffee (Aglaonema commutatum ‘María`) and the other two from tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum), differing in some physiological tests and pathogenicity. Two other isolates were of Erwinia sp. from papaya (Carica papaya) and Pantoea agglomerans from Alocasia macrorrhiza. Antisera were obtained by intravenous injection of formalized cells in rabbits 2.5 months old. The antisera produced were tested with the homologous and heterologous antigens used in this research, others from the genera Pseudomonas and Xanthomona, and isolates of common contaminating bacteria. The antisera showed good titer and were quite specific. Six serological serotypes were cleary separated. The first one (A) for two isolates of P. chrysanthemi, coming from potato and sweet potato and the P. carotovora subsp. carotovora of garden coffee. The isolate from corn also P. chrysanthemi formed a different serotype (B). The other isolates, two of P. carotovora subsp. carotovora from tomato, Erwinia sp. from papaya and P. agglomerans from Alocasia macrorrhiza were placed each one in a different serotype: C, D, E and F respectively.

Keywords : Erwinia; Pantoea; Pectobacterium; Serotipo.
