Abstract

RODRIGUEZ-CASTILLO, José del Carmen et al. Respuesta reproductiva y tasa ovulatoria en cabras boer x nubia en diferentes épocas del año. INCI [online]. 2004, vol.29, n.8, pp.468-472. ISSN 0378-1844.

An experiment was designed to find the effect of overfeeding goats (120% of the nutritional requirements) during 15d, after 15d with or without nutrient restriction, in the reproductive response and ovulatory rate during anoestrus and the reproductive season. Four treatments were evaluated: balanced feeding (100%, T1), feeding increment (to 120%, T2), restricted feeding (65%, T3) and feeding increment from 65 to 120% (T4). Ovulation during anoestrus was induced with fluorogestone acetate (FGA, 45mg) and during the reproductive season 5mg PGF2a was applied additionally, to synchronize the estrus. The percentage, beginning and duration of the estrus were measured, as were the percentage of goats that ovulated and the ovulatory rate. Statistical analysis of the continuous variables was carried out by means of a model of repeated measurements (Mixed of SAS) and the categories with logistical regression (JMP of SAS). The estrus presence was lower (p<0.05) in anoestrus (68.75%) and larger in the reproductive period (93.75%). Overfeeding goats without (T2) and after nutrient restriction (T4) caused lower estrus presence (66 and 58%, respectively). The ovulation rate was bigger in the reproductive season (p<0.05), without effect of feeding. Restricted feeding diminished the ovulatory rate and this effect was counteracted by overfeeding. It is concluded that the reproductive response of the goat is lower in the anoestrus and that overfeeding after a period of nutrient restriction increases the ovulatory rate.
