Abstract
GARCIA-ROMERO, Arturo. Dinámica del paisaje post-fuego en el pastizal tropical de alta montaña. Volcán Iztaccíhuatl, México . INCI [online]. 2004, vol.29, n.11, pp.604-611. ISSN 0378-1844.
The recovery of landscape affected by fire in subalpine grasslands of the Iztaccihuatl Volcano, 70km southeast of Mexico City, was studied. Baseline information was gathered from 57 floristic-environmental inventories. Post-fire age of 60% of the sites was obtained from field interviews, and from this data base correlation tables between richness and species abundance were generated as bases to determinate the post-fire age of the remaining sites and the variables that correlated with fire age: Mean Total Cover of Lupinus montanus, Penstemon gentianoides and grassland, as well as the Mean Species Richness. A binary correlation analysis (Casewise MD deletion) between these variables was used to determine 12 landscape geofacies representative of different post-fire recovery stages. The spatial correlation -in GIS- between geofacies and 7 environmental units defined by altitude, slope orientation and slope morphology, served to differentiate among 6 cosmopolitan geofacies which define the General Post-Fire Landscape Series, as well as 6 exceptional geofacies which are incorporated to the general series in specific environments.
